Put Others First
“Look out for number one!”
We’ve all heard it. Perhaps we’ve even said it ourselves, but is it true? Absolutely. 100%. No doubt. Take it to the bank.
Wait, guys, isn’t this supposed to be about others? It says so. Right there in your title.
It is about others. What did you think we were talking about?
Well, you just said we should look out for number one…
Oh! You thought YOU were number one. Well, there’s your problem right there. Number one is anyone else. Everyone else. Put anyone and everyone in the blank before you put your own name in there. If you think of yourself first, you almost guarantee mistakes, setbacks, and ultimately, failure. It’s true with family, it’s true with friends, it’s true with marriage, and it’s true with business.
Not convinced? What do you tell your salespeople? “If you help people get what they want, they will help you get what you want.” Right? What makes you think you’re operating any differently?
This applies to your current customers, your prospects, your suspects and your employees. Yep. Even your employees. If you know what all these people want, you’ll be better able to give it to them. There is a really handy trick for finding it out: Ask them!
This topic is so important that we’re going to go into a little more detail on each of these. If everyone put others first, we’d all be meeting in the town square on our way to each others’ houses to serve each other. We can’t control what anyone else does, but we can start the ball rolling with what we do.
Give us a call and give us a chance to practice what we preach!
